It is a group of neurological disorders that selectively effect motor neurons, the cells that control voluntary muscle activity including speaking, working, breathing, swallowing and general movement of the body.

Symptomes usually present themselves between the ages of 50-70 and include progressive weakness, muscle wasting and stiffness in muscles, Patients may present with symptoms a diverse as dragging feet, unilateral muscle wasting in the hands and sturred speech. Investigations such as blood tests electromyography (EMG), Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and sometimes genetic testing are useful to rule out other disorders that may mimic (MND) Current, there is no cure for ALS (a form of motor neuron disease). ALS means amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The only drug that affect the course of the disease is riluzole. The drug functions by blocking the effects of the neurotransmitter glutamate and is height to extence the life spoon of the patient by after months.

If the treatment involves use of jadi booties than the cost of intake of herbal medicines may cost from Rs. 20 to Rs. 200 per day.
If the treatment includes Panchakarma and Rasa-Rasayan then the cost of intake of the medicines may range from Rs. 200 to Rs. 2000/- per day. This is so because the process of making bhasma from metals and Navratnas takes two months to 12 months. This makes the medicines rather costly from a layman’s point of view but viewed from the perspective of specialized expertise and effectiveness it is cost- effective. Even in Panch Karma costly herbs oils and classified butter or ghee are used that make it apparently costly. Thus Panchkarma is made available at the rate of Rs. 400 to Rs. 1200 per day.

Time Taken in Curing Diseases

Generally perceptible changes start being noticed and felt after one month of treatment. But since the approach of treatment is to root out the disease it is in the fitness of things to continue treatment in certain causes from 3 to 6 months. If the intensity of the disease is greater it may go up to one year.
